Jesus who?
Jesus once asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" Mark 8:27 and this question concerning who Jesus is, is still being asked today, with some crazy ideas floating about concerning Jesus' identity.
Back then the disciples answered stating what the people were saying about Jesus.
"Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah, and still others, one of the prophets" Mark 8:28
But notice that the one thing all these answers had in common, was that they were people who had lived and died (or taken from this world) ! Yet people in trying to figure out who Jesus was, believed that he must have been a human who had previously existed and had been resurrected from the dead! But in understanding the peoples flawed belief one thing is clear, Jesus was the most exceptional and extraordinary person there has ever been!
[John the Baptist decapitated. Matt 14]
[Elijah taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. 2Kings 2:11]
Today many people are still confused about who Jesus is. Some deny he ever existed, saying he's a myth! Others say he's a prophet, a philosopher, a social reformer, or a great man. But what all these answers have in common is that for many people Jesus is merely a gifted mortal, a mere man!
But what does the Bible say about who Jesus is?
Scripture consistently gives us a clear and unambiguous answer to Jesus' question, "Who do people say that I am?". Scripture tells us that Jesus is God's one and only divine son, he is divine, not created, he is "the Word made flesh" (John 1: 1). He is Emmanuel, which means 'God with us'. The Son left his heavenly realm to enter into our earthly realm to lay down his life on the Cross as an atonement sacrifice so that fallen humanity could return to a right relationship with the Father.
Because he is God's only Son, Jesus stands alone, and unique, and he is the only way for anyone to find salvation. Luke writes in Acts 4:12
"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
Knowing the answer to who Jesus is is vital because it is a matter of life and death! Getting it wrong means death and destruction for eternity while getting it right means 'life and life in the fullest' (John 10:10b)
I hope you choose to get to know Him, God bless,
